My name is Alex Silk and I’d like to use my first blog post to show you my interactive media using the gemmouse and simple animation features in Pd Extended. Here I found a pastel looking picture of a desert landscape though Google and incorporated 3 animations to execute when rolling the cursor over 3 specific locations. Using Photoshop I was able to create all 3 of my animations. A solution I found for presenting the final copy correctly was numbering each animations’ gemhead accordingly so the transparent animations were layered on top of the animation with the integrated background. In my case I let the Cactus Animation have the integrated background and the remaining two layered on top with transparency.
The 3 Locations include:
– The Cactus
-The Rockedge (slight right)
-The Sky (slight left)
I like how for the cactus part of the animation the branch comes right off the cactus and looks like the exact original part of it. This created quite an interesting illusion. Even the continuous parts of the cactus “shedding” created the same effect in a row. Good work!
I liked that all three of your animations blended in quite naturally with your still image. As mcoryea14 said too, the cactus branch does really give a nice illusion. Great job!
I enjoy the animation of the mountain top being knocked off, but I feel that maybe the drawn mountain could have had more detail to fit in even more with the rest of the picture.
For your animation, I would have tried to blend in your drawings with the chosen background picture a little more to make it believable. The mountain would have benefited from being filled in, not just line drawings, but, overall, pretty good
